Wing Chun Kung Fu Forms

Sil Lum Tao Form

The Sil Lum Tao form trains you to move energy in and away from your body's center. It demonstrates the hand positions of the Wing Chun system and provides stance training. This form is not taught as a series of battle applications, for this would limit the endless possibilities of movement and application that come from the Sil Lum Tao. Rather, the Sil Lum Tao promotes relaxation and proper breathing and focuses qi and blood to flow smoothly throughout the body. Qi is the vital energy force that runs through everyone's body. The Sil Lum Tao is the dictionary of our system. Because it provides such a solid foundation, it is often the first and last form every Wing Chun practitioner studies. At the beginning levels, focus is placed on positioning and movement. At the more advanced levels, it is a true internal qi development tool. As you develop proficiency in the Sil Lum Tao, you should feel the form rather than think about the next movement in the series.

Advanced Sil Lum Tao Form

The Advanced Sil Lum Tao is very similar to the original form with a few modifications. The most profound change in this form is the addition of footwork. The advanced Sil Lum Tao teaches the same principles as the Sil Lum Tao, such as the formation of a good base, the fundamental hand positions and movement of energy from the center line of one's body. Additionally, this is the first form incorporating the training of footwork and hand combinations. top

Chum Kue Form

The Chum Que Crossing the Bridge form teaches proper assessment of angles and angle structure to allow safe movement while bridging the gap. This form trains the hands to access the bridge that is created from a contact point between you and your opponent. It also coordinates multiple movements from the Sil Lum Tao in combination. The Chum Que form is an essential part in proper stance and leg movement as well as training cooperative body mechanics. top

Bil Gee

The Bil Gee form thrusting fingers teaches much more than just the thrusting fingers applications or attacks. The Bil Gee teaches additional footwork, and how to recapture the center line if it is taken from you. It prepares you for elbow defense and offense by training the rotation of the elbow. It also teaches the student how to rotate his wrist properly in Bil Gee applications so as not to damage your fingers. top

Wooden Dummy

The Wooden Dummy translates the movements and positions in the forms into textbook/root applications. Wing Chun practitioners understand that the forms teach position and movement. The wooden dummy is a transitional tool between the forms and the actual application of techniques used in fighting. The Wooden dummy teaches 108 root applications. This does not mean that there are only 108 applications in the Wing Chun system. It merely means that the 108 applications taught through use of the wooden dummy are root or base applications out of which all others are derived. It is virtually impossible to move from the beginner to intermediate stages of Wing Chun without understanding and mastering the wooden dummy. The Wooden dummy is not just another form. It is an important tool and a stepping stone from form to application. top

Dragon Pole

The Dragon Pole is Wing Chun's  long range weapon. It was adopted into the system third generation out of the desire to incorporate a long range weapon that would complement the Bart Jarm Do. The skills with the dragon pole is unique in that they make full use of the length of the pole and focus great amounts of energy to very small areas. This adds to the weapons devastating effectiveness. top
